Forschungsaufenthalt in Deutschland:

In addition, he has deepened considerably the understanding of Kant's philosophy of science and has developed a new reading of the early history of Logical Empiricism.
The project that Friedman intends to pursue during his stay in Germany is directed at articulating and defending the claim that the objectivity and rationality of scientific progress can be elucidated by using a dynamical and historicized version of the Kantian a priori.

Fachgebiet:

Geschichte der Philosophie

Forschungsaufenthalt in Deutschland:

01.09.2010 - 31.10.2010

Profil

Professor Carlos Steel is well known for his outstanding research in medieval philosophy and an international authority in ancient philosophy and its reception in its two main branches: the Platonic and the Aristotelian tradition. In his groundbreaking studies and editions he combines philological competence with strong philosophical analysis, the intuition for the significant ideas within the history of philosophy with a subtle understanding of its systematic importance. His familiarity with both, the ancient and the medieval tradition of philosophy in their many cultural contexts makes him an exceptional figure among historians of philosophy.
During his stay in Germany Professor Steel intends to prepare a study on the relation between luck and morality in ancient and medieval philosophy in the tradition of the Aristotelian treatise De Bona Fortuna, a topic of prevailing importance.
