Upon arrival, participants should first register with the conference secretary and then check in with the hotel. The conference registration desk will be located near the hotel reception.

A block of hotel rooms has been reserved for all invited symposium participants at the Shonan Village Center. For any changes of your hotel reservation, please contact Mr. Matsumoto via e-mail at jgfos(at)shonan-village.co.jp . Your room charge and tax for accommodation from 1 November (day of arrival) to 5 November 2007 (day of departure) will be billed directly to JSPS; you will be responsible for incidental charges, if any, upon check out. Meals as indicated in the conference program will also be covered by the symposium organisations for all participants. We would like to ask for your understanding that JSPS and AvH can not cover any expenses for accommodation and meals for accompanying persons.

All rooms have private bathrooms, TVs and direct-dial telephones. Phone calls should be paid for at the hotel reception before departure.


Times for lunch and dinner are as listed in the conference programme.

Breakfasts will be served buffet style from 7:00 to 8:30, in the Cafeteria Oak.

Lunches will take place in the Cafeteria Oak too. Conferees will have the choice between Japanese, Chinese or Western-type menus (self-service).



  • 1 November: welcome drink and dinner will take place in the Foyer of the conference center.
  • 2 November: dinner will be served at the Embassy of Germany after the Cultural Tour.
  • 3 and 4 November: dinner will be served at Cafeteria Oak.


Tea and coffee are served at meals. Additional beverages are at participants' own expense.

Coffee breaks will be held in the Foyer next to the meeting room.

Meeting room

The conference will take place in the Auditorium of the conference center. It is equipped with an overhead projector, slide projectors and two screens for simultaneous projection. A data projector will as well be at participants' disposal.

Please note however that participants making an oral presentation are kindly requested to bring their own laptop (with software) along with them.

Discussion room

The Azeria/Cameria room, located on the 1st floor of the conference center, will be at your disposal for discussions after the sessions. It will be open until 23:30.

Copies and faxes

A copy room is at your disposal. The copy card can be obtained from the hotel front desk. Copies should be paid for when checking out (costs: JPY 10 per page).

Faxes may be sent via the hotel reception (costs: JPY 100 per page to Japan, JPY 210 overseas).

Internet access and computer facilities

Email connection is provided at the conference site. For extensive work or research, some computers with wireless LAN will be available in the conference room and in the lobby. Participants may also bring their own laptop and use - at their own expense - the broadband wired LAN from their room.

Means of payment

The conference center accepts major credit cards such as American Express, Visa or MasterCard. It is also possible to cash travelers' checks and/or exchange currency at the hotel. JSPS arranges and takes care of the food and accommodation during this programme.

Leisure activities

At the conference center

An indoor heated pool is available in the Aqua Club of the Shonan Village Center. Swimming suits and towels can be rented from the front desk. Opening times: 07.00-22.00.

There are no shops or restaurants within close walking distance except the "Motomachi Union" supermarket (3 min. walk from the center), where it is possible to buy food, drinks or stationery (opening times: 10.00-19.00). For further information, please contact the front desk.

Cultural tour

Friday 2 November: half-day Cultural tour to Kamakura, with English-speaking guides. Departure will be at 14:00 after the lunch at Cafeteria OAK.


Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) do not provide insurance and do not take any responsibility for accidents or illnesses that might occur during the week or in the course of travel to or from the meeting place. It is therefore the responsibility of participants to check their health insurance requirements before departure.

Official language

Official Language The official conference language is English. It will be used for all printed materials, presentations, and discussions.
