1^st Sino-German Frontiers of Science Symposium 2008

The Sino-German Frontiers of Science Symposia (SINOGFOS) are a series of interdisciplinary conferences which are co-organized by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The annual meetings are planned to take place in China and Germany alternately beginning in March 2008.

Based on the concept of the frontiers of research program, 54 outstanding young scientists (27 each from Germany and China) from various fields of natural sciences are invited to the 3-day symposium to discuss the challenges in their disciplines and the limitations to progress at the frontiers of their respective fields. During the conference 9 Chinese and 9 German scientists present their current research to the scientifically diverse audience and explain the significance of their research from the perspective of the larger context of their and others' fields of research. Participants are encouraged to exchange knowledge and to start new discussions across the boundaries of their disciplines.

Participants are selected from a pool of outstanding young scientists who have already made significant contributions to sciences.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation supports collaborations between Chinese and German participants with its special follow-up program "CONNECT" which allocates residence allowances for working visits in the partner country for up to 30 days to foster productive long-term Chinese-German research collaborations.
