for academics at the peak of their careers who are world authorities on fields of research within the remit of Helmholtz Centres. Award winners are invited to spend a period of six to twelve months on academic collaboration in Germany with a colleague at a university and at a Helmholtz Centre respectively. Value of the award: 60,000 EUR.
Max Planck Research Award
to sponsor international collaboration between excellent academics in annually changing disciplines. Every year, the award is granted to one researcher working in Germany and one working abroad with the aim of initiating and carrying out research with partners in Germany and abroad respectively. Value of the award: 750,000 EUR.
Reimar Lüst Award
for distinguished humanities and social science scholars who have made an exceptional contribution to the enduring promotion of bilateral relations between Germany and their own countries as multipliers in and through the field of academic study. Award winners are invited to spend a period of six to twelve months in Germany. Value of the award: 50,000 EUR.
Philipp Franz von Siebold Award

TransCoop Programme
to sponsor German-American/Canadian research collaboration in the humanities, social sciences, economics and law over a period of up to three years. Maximal sponsorship: 55,000 EUR.
Research Group Linkage Programme
to sponsor long-term collaborations between foreign academics, already sponsored by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, and German researchers. Maximal sponsorship: 50,000 EUR.
Other target groups
German Chancellor Fellowship
for prospective leaders from China, the Russian Federation and the USA who have completed at least a first degree (Bachelor or comparable degree) and have demonstrated outstanding potential for future leadership in their careers to date. The fellowship allows them the carry out a project of their own choice in Germany over a period of twelve months.
International Climate Protection Fellowship
for prospective leaders from non-European threshold and developing countries who are engaged in the field of climate protection and resource conservation in academia, business and administration and who have completed at least a first university degree and hold a further academic or professional qualification. During a one-year stay in Germany fellows will be enabled to conduct a research-related project of their own choice.
Hezekiah Wardwell Fellowship
for young Spanish musicians and musicologists making the transition to professional life to sponsor further training or advanced study at a college of music or university in Germany over a period of two semesters.
Fellowship for the Promotion of Japan-related Research
for German doctoral candidates working on Japan-related research. The fellowship comprises a single payment of 5,000 EUR which is intended to be used for a research trip to Japan.
