Anneliese Maier Research Award

Information for Nominators

Any established academic actively working at a research institution in Germany (university, non-university research institute) may initiate the procedure for granting an Anneliese Maier Research Award. Direct applications are not accepted.

Award winners are expected to spend a period of up to five years cooperating on a long-term research project with the nominator and / or specialist colleagues at a research institution in Germany. Thus, the nominator should clearly state his or her motivation for initiating the nomination and the expectations associated with the research collaboration as well as its sustainable contribution expected towards the further internationalisation of the humanities and social sciences in Germany. A detailed presentation of research collaboration, on the other hand, is not required. The Anneliese Maier Research Award is awarded in recognition of first-class research achievements and the personality of outstanding academics.

Therefore, the most important aspects for the Selection Committee's assessment of the nomination form are

  • your personal statement with regard to the nominee's international reputation, to recognised theories and insights, to publication activity, to current and future activities and to further outstanding academic achievements you expect,
  • your statement on the expectations associated with the award with regard to research interests shared by you and the nominee, themes for potential research proposals, the academic benefit to the subject area you expect from granting the Anneliese Maier Research Award and the contribution of the cooperation to the internationalisation of the subject area in Germany.

Please observe the hints in the online nomination form, when preparing your personal statement and your statement on the expectations associated with the award and deal with all the points in detail, if possible in the order given. You can rest assured that your statements will be treated confidentially by the Humboldt Foundation administration and the Selection Committee.

Please bear in mind that the Humboldt Foundation's administration can only initiate the external peer review procedure once the complete nomination documents have been received.

The following additional documents have to be uploaded to the online nomination form:

  • Personal statement by the nominator
(laudation, academic appraisal; two pages minimum)
  • Statement on the expectations associated with the award
    (two pages max)
  • List of the nominee’s key publications
  • List of the nominee's publications

In your role as academic host integrating the guest academic in your working group, you undertake to observe both the principles of scientific ethics and the regulations to prevent the transfer of armaments-related technology as well as to pay heed to the danger of any other illegal or undesirable transfer of knowledge. Furthermore, the Rules of Good Scientific Practice must be observed.
