Book Donations

Research fellows are eligible to apply to the AvH for donations of academic literature. Individual applications should not usually exceed EUR 1,000. According to the guidelines of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation we can only donate book titles from German authors or published by German publishers. The books donated will be given to the research fellow's institute and are designated first and foremost for the fellow's research work. Humboldtians at institutions in countries with limited foreign currency reserves (please see current list of countries) should be given priority.

Subscription costs for journals cannot be borne by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Applications should include the following documents:

• completed application form;
• a list of the required books.

Funding: purchase and shipment of books.

Important notice: As of 31 December 2010 the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation will cease sponsoring book donations for Humboldtians in those countries which became members of the European Union in the year 2004 (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Malta and Cyprus) and in the People's Republic of China. Humboldtians in the above-mentioned countries are advised to consider the possibility of applying for sponsorship in the research group linkage programme, which, besides funding for various research activities, includes also financial support for material expenses at the collaborative partner's institute abroad. Humboldtians in the above-mentioned countries may submit applications for book donations until 31 December 2010.
