Network meeting

Several regional network meetings are held annually for research fellows newly arrived in Germany (without their families). These meetings take place in German university cities. The aim is

  • to familiarise research fellows with the Humboldt Foundation and various assistance schemes offered;
  • to inform about German university institutions and the university system, also in comparison with higher education systems outside Germany;
  • to offer an opportunity to meet colleagues and members of the Humboldt Foundation's staff; and
  • to give an insight into conditions in Germany in discussions within groups arranged according to countries and disciplines.

Network Meetings take place in the spring and fall for German and foreign research fellows of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Annual meeting

The Humboldt Foundation's annual meeting takes place in the summer. All research fellows and research award winners from all disciplines and countries staying in Germany as well as Feodor Lynen Research Fellows who returned in the preceding year are invited together with their families to attend this meeting. It offers an opportunity to exchange views with representatives of the foreign missions and to hold discussions with members of the Foundation's Board of Governors, the Selection Committees and the Humboldt Foundation's staff. The highlight of the annual meeting is a traditional reception given by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany for all participants.

Study tour

At the end of August or early in September each year, a study tour is arranged for research fellows and their spouses. The tour lasts approximately 14 days and takes participants to regions of Germany at some distance from host towns, including visits to several cities, industrial firms, museums and concerts, and discussions with representatives of various sectors. The aim is to give research fellows a realistic insight into the cultural, social, political and economic situation in Germany. During the study tour, a reception is held for each group at the Humboldt Foundation.
