1st Indo-German Frontiers of Engineering Symposium 2009
October 1 - 4, 2009
MGM Beach Resort, Chennai, India
The Indo-German Frontiers of Engineering Symposia (INDOGFOE) are a series of interdisciplinary, binational conferences which are co-organized by the Indian Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The activity brings together outstanding, early-career German and Indian engineers from industry, universities, and other research institutions to introduce their areas of engineering research and technical work, thereby facilitating an interdisciplinary transfer of knowledge and methodology that could eventually lead to the development of cooperative networks of young engineers from both countries. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation will support such collaborations between German and Indian participants with its special follow-up program "CONNECT" which allocates residence allowances for working visits in their partner country for up to 30 days.
With the start of this special type of conference for Indian and German engineers and scientists the Humboldt Foundation extends its successful program of binational Frontiers of Research Symposia. Symposia in the area of engineering are also carried out with the U.S. (German-American Frontiers of Engineering Symposium (GAFOE). Furthermore, Frontiers of Science Symposia are organized for natural scientists with U.S., Japanese, Chinese, and British partners as well as Frontiers of Humanities Symposia with U.S. and, most recently with Israeli partner organizations.
Conferences will be held annually, typically alternating between Germany and India, with about 30 engineers from each country participating. An organizing committee comprised of German and Indian engineers develops the program for the event. Co-chairs for the 2009 INDOGFOE meeting are Thomas Stieglitz, Department of Microsystems Engineering, University of Freiburg, and Sarit Kumar Das, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai. The areas that will be covered at the 2009 INDOGFOE symposium are “Alternative and Renewable Fuels”, “Bio MEMS”, “Micro-Nano and Bio Transport Processes”, and “Technologies for Future Transportation”. Participation by invitation only.
