Dear readers,
Nowadays, you can pave the road with rankings, but in most of them one important indicator for internationality, the figures for foreign guest researchers, hardly features at all. The new Humboldt Rankings help to close this gap and reveal which universities and research institutions are particularly popular with the Foundation’s fellows and award winners.

Big cities like Berlin and Munich head the field, but some of the smaller towns also do well and come up with a few surprises. Happy reading!

New award for researchers from developing countries

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is announcing a new award to honour researchers from developing and transition countries: the Georg Forster Research Award. Valued at 60,000 EUR, it will be granted this year to four leading researchers who will be invited to conduct a development-related research project together with specialist colleagues in Germany.
