Invitation to the Humboldt Foundation’s digital Annual Meeting

Dear Reader,

This year, we will be meeting in a different way than usual. The corona pandemic and contact restrictions have changed a lot of things, including the Humboldt Foundation’s Annual Meeting scheduled to be held from 24 to 25 June.

Every year, the gathering in the park at Schloss Bellevue is a major highlight for more than 800 researchers from throughout the world. Normally, individuals who are sponsored by the Humboldt Foundation travel with their families to Berlin where they are the guests of Germany’s Federal President.

This year however, this major networking meeting will be held digitally. Researchers from all over the world will participate and share information and ideas with one another from home.

The opening ceremony will be streamed on our website and on YouTube on Wednesday, 24 June, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. You can also take part! The programme includes addresses by Germany’s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier; Hans-Christian Pape, President of the Humboldt Foundation; Michelle Münterfering, Minister of State in the Federal Foreign Office; and Wolf-Dieter Lukas from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. It will additionally feature science slams and the ceremony to award initiatives developed by Humboldt Alumni to promote science communication in Latin America, foster networks for researchers in Cameroon, and support civic involvement in Romania, to name a few examples.

The Annual Meeting is part of our #ResearchAcrossBorders campaign which promotes international exchange. In interviews, experts from our network present the research they are doing during the corona pandemic. What solutions are they working on? What experiences, changes and even lessons are they observing? You can find out here in video interviews with these researchers.

We wish you a very enjoyable time at our virtual Annual Meeting. Take care!
