Statement regarding "Kippa Day" in Bonn

Joint statement issued by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service and the German Research Foundation

With its "Kippa Day" on 19 July, the City of Bonn sent a clear signal that it is committed to social cohesion and against growing anti-Semitism. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service and the German Research Foundation expressly welcome the broad participation of their employees on 19 July. These scientific institutions issued the following joint statement regarding the event:

"Science and research require freedom and open-mindedness. International exchange and unbiased encounters across nations, cultures and religions are however prerequisites not just for science and research but for an open, democratic society as a whole.

We do not tolerate inhumanity, violence, discrimination, prejudice or bigotry. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service and the German Research Foundation, as scientific institutions located in Bonn, are committed to ensuring that Bonn continues to be open-minded, international and welcoming and that all our guests, employees and colleagues feel comfortable and safe here. This likewise means that anyone who comes to Germany or to Bonn must naturally be able to trust our authorities."
