245 young international researchers from 50 countries in Hamburg

Fellows’ meeting of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at Hamburg University from 6 to 8 November

245 young researchers from 50 countries will be guests at Hamburg University from 6 to 8 November 2019 for the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s networking meeting. The researchers are currently in Germany as Humboldt Fellows and are working together with German colleagues at research institutions throughout the country. The meeting is being held to introduce the new Humboldtians to one another and to Hamburg ­­­– representatively for Germany as a location for conducting research. Employees of the Foundation will be on hand to provide advice on living and conducting research in Germany.

Opening: Wednesday, 6 November 2019, 3:00 p.m.

The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 6 November, when the President of Hamburg University Dieter Lenzen and Enno Aufderheide, Secretary General of the Humboldt Foundation, welcome the attendees.
The art historian Frank Fehrenbach will then hold the opening lecture on "Leonardo da Vinci’s Natural Theory of Images". The Alexander von Humboldt Professor has been conducting research at the Department of Art History at Hamburg University since 2013.

On Thursday, 7 November, the Humboldtians will visit research institutes in Hamburg where the young researchers will have the opportunity to network among themselves and with their German colleagues. The fellows will present their research subjects during a poster session starting at 2:45 p.m. (Flügelbau West, Edmund-Siemers-Allee 1). The Humboldt Foundation will additionally present its profile and programmes to all interested parties in an information presentation at 3:30 p.m (Flügelbau West, room 121).

Most of this year’s participants come from the natural and life sciences (59%), followed by participants from the humanities and social sciences (28%), and from engineering (13%). The majority of the foreign guests are from the USA (27), China (16) and Brazil (13). 18 participants are currently conducting research in Hamburg.
