The German Brand Award is a prize for outstanding brand management in Germany. It seeks to discover, present and award ground-breaking brands and brand developers. It is awarded in three categories. The Humboldt Kosmos, which the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation uses to make its name better known throughout the world, received the award in the Band Campaign – Classic & Print category. "Content of significant substance, high-quality graphics, attention to detail and always good for a surprise. Whether large photo layouts, illustrations or infographics – the design reflects the Foundation's forward-looking spirit", according to the decision.

The award is conferred by the German Brand Institute and the German Design Council which was established by the German Bundestag in 1953 and is endowed by the Federation of German Industries. Only companies that have been nominated by the German Brand Institute may take part in the competition. The winners are chosen by an independent specialist jury which includes experts from universities and brand and communications agencies.
