Helmut Schwarz elected Honorary Member of the Accademia delle Scienze dell'Istituto di Bologna

The President of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Helmut Schwarz, has been elected an honorary member of the Italian Accademia delle Scienze dell'Istituto di Bologna.

One of the world’s leading researchers in molecular chemistry, Helmut Schwarz became President of the Humboldt Foundation in January 2008.

After reading chemistry, he took his doctorate at Technische Universität Berlin in 1972, completed his professorial qualifications there in 1974 and was appointed to a professorship for the theory and practice of mass spectrometry four years later. Helmut Schwarz has been Professor for Organic Chemistry at TU Berlin since 1983.

The Accademia delle Scienze dell'Istituto di Bologna was founded in 1690 and is one of the oldest scientific academies in Italy. Amongst its members were famous Italian and international scientists such as Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, Alexander von Humboldt, Luigi Galvani, Guglielmo Marconi and Giovanni Pascoli.
