6th Brazilian-German Frontiers of Science and Technology Symposium 2015

Conference information

Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler is a picturesque small town with approx. 27.000 inhabitants and the capital of Ahrweiler district in the German Bundesland of Rhineland-Palatinate. Situated in a unique natural environment on the banks of the river Ahr, the historic town with its two centres Neuenahr and Ahrweiler is embedded in vineyards of the beautiful Ahr valley. Over a distance of 89 km the river meanders its way through the valley until it reaches the Rhine River near the city of Remagen. As one of the northernmost red wine producing areas in the world with more than 1300 hours of sunshine every year, vines in the Ahr valley have been cultivated since Roman times.

Celts, Teutons, ancient Romans, Lords, Archbishops and the French settled one after the other in Ahrweiler. The medieval town walls with their moat, gates and towers built in the 13th century are still almost entirely preserved. The church of St. Laurentius at the old market square is the oldest gothic hall church in the Rhineland.

Bad Neuenahr, the younger part of the two sister towns, has become famous as a spa town because of its springs, especially because of the well-known Apollinaris Mineral Water spring. It is characterized by white noble houses, the neoclassicist old thermal spa, the old casino in art nouveau setting, marvelous parks as well as the spa gardens with their beautiful old trees, and the river Ahr which runs across the town.
