International Climate Protection Fellowship

Information for Hosts

Anyone working at a public or private institution in Germany (university, research institute, public administration, non-governmental organisation, ministry, business etc.) may be a host. The host's task is to ensure that the fellow receives professional support during his or her stay in Germany. Since fellows may carry out their projects at research institutions, companies, associations, administrations, or other establishments in Germany, the host's role will vary depending on the nature of the proposal and the fellow's needs. The host's main responsibility is to provide the right conditions for the successful completion of the project in Germany and to mediate the necessary contacts to other partners or institutions. Please note that fellows must be present at the host institution in Germany for the entire duration of sponsorship. It is, therefore, not permitted to spend periods outside of Germany (except in the context of a Europe Research Stay).

Information on the selection criteria for International Climate Protection Fellowships can be found in the programme information.

If a fellowship is granted, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation will pay an allowance for research costs to the host institution. This amounts to €800 per month for projects in the natural sciences and engineering and €500 for projects in the humanities and social sciences.

The applicant should provide you with the documents and information required to prepare your statement (letter of motivation, draft of a research-based proposal, curriculum vitae).Agreement must be reached between you and the applicant in advance on the proposal which should be developed independently by the applicant. Your statement will be treated confidentially by the Humboldt Foundation and by the Selection Committee.

Once you have checked the documents and agreed upon the proposal with the applicant, please prepare a statement written entirely in English using the list of questions for the host's statement and upload it to the application along with the signed confirmation of support in a secure area. The applicant will send you the link to this area by email.

Please note that the applicant will only be able to submit his/her application as soon as the complete application documents including your statement and the signed confirmation of support have been uploaded. We therefore recommend that you upload your documents at least one week prior to the application deadline on 1 March.
