8th Indo-German Frontiers of Engineering Symposium 2016

May 19-12, 2016
Potsdam, Germany

The Indo-German Frontiers of Engineering Symposia (INDOGFOE) are a series of interdisciplinary, binational conferences which are co-organized by the Indian Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Funding on the German side is provided by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The activity brings together outstanding, early-career German and Indian engineers and natural scientists from industry, universities, and other research institutions to introduce their areas of engineering research and technical work, thereby facilitating an interdisciplinary transfer of knowledge and methodology that could eventually lead to the development of cooperative networks of young scientists from both countries. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation will support such collaborations between German and Indian participants with its special follow-up program "CONNECT" which allocates residence allowances for working visits in their partner country for up to 30 days.

Conferences will be held annually, typically alternating between Germany and India, with about 30 scientists from each country participating. An organizing committee comprised of German and Indian engineers and natural scientists develops the program for the event. Co-chairs for the 2015 and 2016 INDOGFOE meetings are Julian Schwenzel, Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and New Materials (IFAM), Bremen and Sandeep Verma, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. The areas that will be covered at the 2016 INDOGFOE symposium are “Energy Harvesting”, “Exploring Length Scales in Biomechanics”, “Smart Materials and Bio-inspired Systems”, and “Urban Systems”.

Participation by invitation only.
