Newsletter 2/2013

Dear readers,
It seems as though another Humboldtian is about to become the next US Energy Secretary in Barack Obama’s cabinet. Following on from Steven Chu, the physicist and Humboldt Research Award winner, Ernest Moniz, is the second Humboldtian to be nominated for the office. Moniz is not only an outstanding researcher; he also has excellent connections to Germany. And he stands for the continuation of a research-driven energy policy that tries to find alternatives to declining fossil fuel resources. The Humboldt Foundation would like to congratulate him and is delighted that this nomination demonstrates, once again, what an important role Humboldtians play not only in research, but in shaping our future as well. You’ll find this and other interesting news in this newsletter. Happy reading!
