Newsletter 3/2015

Dear Readers,

“Miracle” is the word the chairman of the German-Israeli Parliamentarian Group in the German Bundestag, Volker Beck, used at a Humboldt Workshop in Berlin in July to describe the fact that Germany and Israel are currently celebrating 50 years of official diplomatic relations. The science community also helped prepare the ground for this step: researchers from both countries initiated early contacts years before official relations became reality, and the Humboldt Foundation awarded a fellowship to an Israeli researcher for the first time already back in 1958.

During the workshop, participants from Germany, Israel, Canada and the Palestinian territories also directed their attention to the present and discussed the question of how sustainability, resource management and climate protection can serve as driving forces for peace in the Middle East.

Articles on this and much more are awaiting you in our latest Newsletter.
