Humboldt Foundation cooperates with Kiel’s “Future Ocean” Cluster of Excellence

Humboldt Fellowship for oceanologists to research in Kiel

The Kiel Cluster of Excellence “The Future Ocean” is about to start working together with the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to recruit international researchers, who are investigating the changes in the oceans, as Humboldt Fellows. This was agreed by the President of the University of Kiel (CAU), Prof. Dr. Gerhard Fouquet, and Dr. Thomas Hesse, head of the Selection Department at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in a joint declaration in Kiel today.

The first fellows are scheduled to be selected by the Humboldt Foundation in summer 2010 so that they can start their research in Kiel at the end of the year. The costs of up to ten Humboldt Fellowships for experienced researchers or post-doctoral researchers will be borne by the Cluster of Excellence. The fellowships address researchers of different disciplines specialising in marine research, such as biologists, geoscientists, economists, medical scientists, mathematicians and lawyers. Candidates should apply to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation which will also be responsible for selecting suitable fellows. Applications for a research position in the Cluster of Excellence are subject to the usual standards applying to the Humboldt Research Fellowship Programme.

The Humboldt Foundation sees this agreement as a model for similar collaborations with other research institutions in Germany and as a way of drawing the attention of highly qualified researchers abroad to collaborative partners in Germany and potential sponsorship by the Humboldt Foundation.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

Every year, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation enables more than 1,900 researchers from all over the world to spend time researching in Germany.
