Second round of ideas competition on international alumni work begins

German universities again invited to compete for three 130,000 EUR awards

After its successful first round in 2011, which was won by RWTH Aachen and the Universities of Bayreuth and Heidelberg, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is again inviting universities to take part in its ideas competition “Research alumni of universities in Germany”. How can research alumni assist universities in their marketing activities or in addressing young researchers abroad? How can cooperations be lastingly sustained and expanded, and how can the expertise of research alumni be employed to internationalise universities? The competition seeks concepts for permanently maintaining and making use of contacts to international alumni who have previously spent time researching at German universities and are now continuing their academic work abroad.

The three best concepts among the submitted ideas will be selected by a jury and receive an award. The award amount of 130,000 EUR is to be dedicated to putting the successful concepts into practice and creating sustainable structures. German universities that host international guest researchers are eligible to apply. The call for proposals opens on 12 April 2012, the closing date for applications is 12 July 2012.

This competition is part of the project “International Research Marketing”, which is a joint initiative by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service, the German Research Foundation and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and is part of the initiative “Research in Germany – Land of Ideas”.
