Annual meeting of the Humboldt Foundation with Foreign Minister Steinmeier and Federal President Gauck

More than 600 international researchers to meet in Berlin on 10 and 11 June

How do guest researchers experience their research stay in Germany? And where does research policy become foreign policy? Questions like these will be the focus of attention at the annual meeting of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation being held in Berlin on 10 and 11 June.

Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier will open the meeting on 10 June with a speech at the Freie Universität Berlin. Federal President Joachim Gauck will receive the more than 600 researchers from nearly 80 countries the next day in the park at Schloss Bellevue. On this occasion Gauck will also present the 2015 Philipp Franz von Siebold Award to the Japanese legal historian Kazuhiro Takii for outstanding services in fostering exchange between Germans and Japanese.

The annual meeting brings together international researchers from a wide range of countries and disciplines who are currently guests at a German university through a fellowship from the Humboldt Foundation. The annual meeting revolves around bringing Humboldtians together (who bring their spouses and children with them as well) and encouraging exchange between them.

Journalists are also cordially invited to attend. It is permitted to film, photograph and make audio recordings.

We shall be happy to arrange interviews with researchers during the entire meeting.
