Federal President Steinmeier to receive Humboldtians in Schloss Bellevue

As part of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation's annual meeting, more than 570 international researchers will be received by Germany's Federal President on 29 June.

They come from Brazil, Cuba and Great Britain, from France, China and Cameroon, from Sri Lanka and the USA or one of another 80 or so countries around the world: more than 570 international researchers who are currently guests at a German university through a fellowship from the Humboldt Foundation are expected along with their families in Berlin on 28 and 29 June. The annual meeting of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation serves to bring Humboldtians together and encourage exchange between them.
The highlight will be a meeting with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on 29 June. This year marks the first time during his term of office that President Steinmeier will receive Humboldtians in the park at Schloss Bellevue. Before the reception, Federal President Steinmeier will present the 2017 Philipp Franz von Siebold Award to the Japanese philosopher Hiroshi Abe for outstanding services in fostering exchange between Germans and Japanese.

The annual meeting will be opened by the President of the Humboldt Foundation, Helmut Schwarz, and the President of the Technische Universität Berlin, Christian Thomsen, on 28 June. Following their opening speeches and a talk by Serge Haroche, Humboldt Research Award Winner and Nobel Laureate in Physics, Humboldtians will report on their experiences in Germany.
The Humboldt Alumni Awards to foster academic and cultural ties between Germany and the alumni’s home countries will also be presented during the opening ceremony.

The researchers will be available on both days for interviews regarding, for example, living and conducting research in Germany and their respective home country or about their particular research projects.
