Invitation: the Humboldt Foundation's new President introduces himself

Press breakfast with Hans-Christian Pape in Berlin on 19 January

The neurophysiologist and brain researcher Hans-Christian Pape became President of the Humboldt Foundation on 1 January 2018. He will introduce himself and present the aims and challenges for his term as president at a press breakfast in Berlin.

On the evening prior to this, Hans-Christian Pape will be formally installed in his office as President at the Humboldt Foundation's New Year's reception in the presence of international guests from the science community, the political sector, business and Humboldtians.

The neurophysiologist Hans-Christian Pape teaches and conducts research at the University of Münster. The brain researcher ranks among the leading experts on the neurophysiological underpinnings of emotional behaviour and in research on anxiety and anxiety disorders, fear and fear memory. In addition to conducting research, Hans-Christian Pape is active in a number of advisory and consultative bodies at national and international level. These include the Wissenschaftsrat (German Council of Science and Humanities). He was also a member of the Selection Commission for the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft's (German Research Foundation) Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize.

Hans-Christian Pape was appointed by Federal Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel to a five-year term starting 1 January 2018. His appointment was proposed by an international selection committee and unanimously approved by the Humboldt Foundation's Board of Trustees.
