Arrival by plane

The closest international airport is Düsseldorf International Airport / DUS (ca. 50 km).

Please note: before using the public transportation system purchase a ticket at the ticket counter or machine for transfer from the airport to Gelsenkirchen (hotel). The ticket costs €14,60 (price zone D, valid for max. 5 hours going one direction).

The "Düsseldorf Flughafen" airport railway station is operated by InterCityExpress (ICE), InterCity (IC), EuroCity (EC) or regional trains (RE).

  • From Düsseldorf Airport (go to railway platform) take the regional trains RE 2 (direction to "Münster (Westf) Hbf") or RE 3 (direction to "Hamm (Westf)") and get off at "Gelsenkirchen Hauptbahnhof". The trains operate once an hour (´13 / ´53) during weekdays. Approx. travel time: 40 minutes.
  • You can also use S-railway lines. Take S-Bahn S 1 (direction to "Dortmund Hbf") and get off at "Duisburg Hbf". Change to S-Bahn S 2 (direction to "Dortmund Hbf" again) and get off at "Gelsenkirchen Hauptbahnhof". The trains operate once an hour (´08) during weekdays. Approx. travel time: 80 minutes.
  • From the central station you reach the hotel by foot within 20 minutes (walking distance approx. 2km). Leave the train station towards Hiberniastrasse /Husemannstrasse (direction to Altstadt) where the hotel is located.
  • From the central station you can also use the tramway 107 (direction to "Essen Hauptbahnhof") which operates in frequent intervals (every 20 min). Get off at the stop "Feldmarkstraße".
  • Taxi fare from Düsseldorf Airport to the hotel: approx. €55 one way (tip not included). Travel time: approx. 45 minutes depending on traffic!

Arrival by train

Gelsenkirchen can be reached from almost all of Germany's towns and cities due to various ICE-, IC-, RE- and S- railway lines.

  • Take a train to "Gelsenkirchen Hauptbahnhof". From the central station you reach the hotel by foot within 20 minutes (walking distance approx. 2km). Leave the train station towards Hiberniastrasse /Husemannstrasse (direction to Altstadt) where the hotel is located.
  • From the central station you can also use the tramway 107 (direction to "Essen Hauptbahnhof") which operates in frequent intervals (every 20 min). Get off at the stop "Feldmarkstraße". The ticket costs €2,60 (zone A2, valid for 90 min going one direction).
  • Taxi fare from the central station to the hotel is approx. €7

Arrival by car

Gelsenkirchen is connected with the motorways A 2, A 40, A 42 and A 52 as well as to the federal highways B 224, B 226 and B 227. Gelsenkirchen Hauptbahnhof (central station) lies at the junction of the Duisburg-Dortmund, the Essen-Gelsenkirchen and the Gelsenkirchen-Münster lines.
