Dear reader,

On 23 and 24 June we will be gathering researchers from around the world at our digital annual meeting being held this year under the motto “Diversity of Ideas”. For the second time now, the annual reception for our fellows will be conducted online instead of in the park at Schloss Bellevue due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The idea behind our Diversity of Ideas meeting is to turn the diversity of the Humboldt Network with over 30,000 fellows, award winners and alumni from more than 140 countries into a tangible experience and create space for sharing and networking even in times of a pandemic. We cordially invite you to take part!

The opening day will be streamed live on our website and on YouTube starting 5 p.m. We will also be covering the conference on Twitter where you can follow the activities under the hashtag #ProgressDiversity. The conference will be opened with speeches by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the president of the Humboldt Foundation, Hans-Christian Pape. Greetings will be given by Michelle Müntefering, Minister of State at Germany’s Federal Foreign Office, and Wolf-Dieter Lukas, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Emmanuelle Charpentier, the 2020 Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry and a Humboldtian, will report on her research. Fellows from Argentina, Bulgaria, Nepal, Nigeria, the Czech Republic and Uzbekistan will also provide insights into their work. These individuals are exemplary for the diversity of the Humboldt Network – not just in terms of the regions its members hail from but also with regard to their fields and areas of focus.

Our annual meeting under the banner Diversity of Ideas is part of the #ProgressDiversity campaign which the Humboldt Foundation is using to foster diversity in science and research. For more about the campaign, click here.

We wish you a very enjoyable time at our digital annual meeting!
