19th German-American Frontiers of Engineering Symposium (virtual)

When
-

This year’s symposium is dedicated to several fields of knowledge with a strong impact on technological and societal development: ranging from Quantum Computing, Manufacturing 4.0, Carbon Capture and Utilization, to Biologization. Young experts from leading universities, research institutes and industry take the challenge to exchange on the developments and problems at these frontiers of research areas different from their own and to transfer new techniques and approaches across fields.

The organizing committee co-chaired by M. Cynthia Hipwell, Texas A&M University, and Olivier Guillon, Forschungszentrum Jülich is comprised of German and U.S. engineers who have developed the program for this event.

Partner and goals

The German-American Frontiers of Engineering Symposia are organized by the US National Academy of Engineering and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

This symposium series brings together approx. 60 outstanding young researchers of various disciplines of engineering and applied natural sciences from industry, universities, and other research institutions of both countries to introduce their areas of engineering research and technical work. They exchange ideas across disciplinary and methodological boundaries, build cross-disciplinary networks, and take the opportunity to work on future US-German collaborations. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation supports such collaborative work with its special follow-up program "CONNECT".

The German-American Frontiers of Engineering Symposium series is part of the Frontiers of Research program of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The Humboldt Foundation regularly conducts Frontiers of Research Symposia in cooperation with partner organizations in Brazil, China, Japan, India, Israel, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the USA in the natural sciences, engineering, social sciences and the humanities.

Participation is by invitation only.
