Nominator's project description

Professor Jean Grondin is internationally renowned as a student, eminent interpreter and translator of Hans-Georg Gadamer. His achievements concerning the reception of philosophical hermeneutics in France and the francophone countries are outstanding. Professor Grondin is one of the finest French-speaking scholars of classical German philosophy from Kant to Hegel as well as Husserl, Heidegger and Gadamer. He mediates their thought with contemporary French philosophy of phenomenological provenance and has gained prominence as an interpreter of Emmanuel Lévinas. During his stay at Gadamer's home institution in Heidelberg, he plans to trace the connections between hermeneutics and metaphysics, especially the platonic-neoplatonic tradition.
