Nominator's project description

Peter Hirschfeld, Professor of Physics at the University of Florida, is an accomplished theorist who made significant contributions to the understanding of strongly correlated electron systems when this area was the most competetive in condensed matter physics. Beginning with a postdoctoral research position at the TU München in 1984-86, he has maintained strong connections with the German scientific community, visiting Germany twice as an AvH research fellow in the nineties. Supported by the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Prize he is now working on the physics of grain boundaries in high temperature superconductors in the group of Professors Jochen Mannhart and Thilo Kopp at the University of Augsburg.
