Nominator's project description
| Professor Julius Rebek, Jr., is a leading authority in supramolecular and bioorganic chemistry. He performed pioneering studies of hydrogen bonded supramolecular assemblies which govern the formation of living structures. Julius Rebek is well recognized for his innovative approaches that allowed him to decipher the physicochemical basis of complex formation based on hydrogen bonds and other weak non-covalent interactions. His research culminates in the synthesis of artificially self-replicating systems. In recent years, he developed novel self recognizing molecular capsules which can bind unusual, typically non-interacting guest molecules such as methane in their cavities. In Germany, he intends to further develop these capsules into molecular devices. |
