Nominator's project description

Alexander Govorov is a world leading expert in the physics of nanometer scale semiconductors, a modern and rapidly developing area of physics. His broad interests include optical, electron transport, and acoustic phenomena. He made important theoretical contributions to the physics of light emission from nanostructures, such as quantum dots and rings, and of "quantum acoustics", a new field where he developed basic concepts. His ideas are implemented in many experimental laboratories around the world. The award enables joint research on optical quantum properties of nanostructures with experimentalists in Germany at LMU München.
