Nominator's project description

Professor Pop is an international authority in birational algebraic geometry. In his research work he uses and combines methods belonging to algebraic geometry, arithmetic geometry, Galois theory and model theory in a highly innovative way. Professor Pop has achieved major progress on Grothendieck's conjecture of anabelian birational geometry. During his stay in Germany, he continues his research on anabelian geometry, in particular on the birational anabelian programme initiated by Bogomolov.
