Nominator's project description
| Professor Rapp is internationally recognized for outstanding research on matter under extreme conditions, as it existed a few microseconds after the Big Bang and may be found in the core of neutron stars. In the laboratory it is recreated in high-energy collisions of heavy ions. His work on photon radiation and electron-pair production from the hot and dense collision zone has significantly advanced the understanding of the modification of the properties of hadrons in the vicinity of the transition from matter consisting of mesons and baryons to a plasma state of quarks and gluons. In Germany he intends to collaborate with experimental and theoretical groups to interprete recent measurements performed at the Center for Heavy Ion Research GSI in Darmstadt and the CERN accelerator complex in Geneva. |
