Nominator's project description

Professor Komatsu contributed significantly to our knowledge of cyclic conjugated hydrocarbons and new carbon allotropes. He succeeded in inverstigating a number of unstable radical cations of cyclic pi-systems as well as a benzene derivative with wlternating bond lengths and aplanar cyclooctatetraene. The high speed vibration milling of C60 enabled him to syntehsize the new carbon allotropes C120, C180, C130. Both topics will be continued in Heidelberg by means of quantumchemical calculations and photoelectron spectroscopic inverstigations.
