Nominator's project description

Professor Araki is a leading expert in the field of Mathematical Physics. He is well known for his seminal contributions to the theory of operator algebras on one hand and to quantum physics on the other which fostered the mutual fertilization of these complementary fields. His work comprises the solution of numerous conceptual and constructive problems ranging from the microscopic regime of particle physics up to macroscopic quantum systems. During his stay in Germany, he intends to work on the structure of non-equilibrium quantum states.
