Nominator's project description
| Murugappan Muthukumar is recognized by many in the polymer community as the most influential theorist of the past two decades. Exploiting the tools of both analytical theory and computer simulation, he has made seminal contributions to the understanding of a wide variety of complex polymer systems. Many of his results are so fundamental that key concepts can be extrapolated well beyond a specific problem. His future research activities as a Humboldt prize awardee will focus on pattern recognition on a molecular level. This is of fundamental importance for the understanding of complex functions in life as well as in material sciences. |
