Nominator's project description
| Alexander Sobolev is the world's leading scientist to study microscopic melt inclusions contained in magmatic crystals formed in deep volcanic magma chambers. He has developed new ideas and methods for studying the chemistry and the conditions of formation of these inclusions. The results of his work are revolutionizing our understanding of volcanic processes and the formation of melts in the Earth's interior. Knowledge of these processes is of fundamental importance for a better understanding of our planet's evolution. |
