Nominator's project description

Professor Igor Komarov from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine Professor Komarov is a highly reputed organic chemist, known internationally for the design and synthesis of conformationally restricted model compounds. These molecules have been used to obtain new fundamental insights into stereochemistry and catalysis, and they are applied as tailored probes in structural biology and medicinal chemistry. Professor Komarov can be described to have "green fingers", as he manages to produce even the most challenging molecular frameworks that suffer from considerable internal strain. During his stay in Germany, he intends to complete the synthesis of a full set of fluorine-labelled amino acids, to be applied in solid-state 19F-NMR structural analysis of membrane-bound peptides. Professor Igor Komarov is hosted by Professor Anne S. Ulrich at the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT).
