Nominator's project description

Professor Okome is internationally renowned for his outstanding research in African literature and cinema. He has made important contributions to the critical study of the literary work of authors of international acclaim such as Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe, and Ken Saro-Wiwa. He combines this critical expertise with innovative perspectives on Africa's popular arts, especially film and video. During his stay in Germany he will continue his research on "Modernity and the Onitsha Market Arts", and will begin to work on a new book titled "The Abject in Anglophone African Literature." Prof. Okome is hosted by Prof. Matthias Krings at the University of Mainz
