Nominator's project description

Dr. Joris Koene (pronounced „Kuhne“) is an international authority in the study of hermaphroditic sexual systems. He is particularly well known for his work on the function of so-called love darts in land snails, which turn out to be a tool for aggressive partner manipulation rather than being a sign of cooperation. Dr. Koene combines techniques from neurophysiology, ethology and evolutionary ecology. During his stay in Germany he plans to continue his work on the causes and consequences of sexual conflict in hermaphrodites. Dr. Koene is hosted by Prof. Dr. Nico Michiels at the University of Tübingen.
