Nominator's project description

Professor Sajeev John is one of the founders of the field of photonic band gap materials or "photonic creystals", which allow the tailoring of optical properties of materials to mould the flow of light. Photonic crystals exhibit a wealth of effects which make them exiting for basic science as well as for potential applications in the telecommunications industry. Professor John has always been one of the main promoters of and contributors to this research area.
