Nominator's project description
| Professor Liu is an outstanding scientist in fluid mechanics with applications to coastal and tsunami engineering. His breakthrough contributions span over a broad range of research areas, including new theories and modelling concepts to combine wave refraction and diffraction, to unify long wave and short wave modelling, to accurately compute harbour resonance and tsunami run-up, to analytically solve boundary layer flows under transient waves and to apply two-phase flow theory for sediment transport. In Germany, he plans to focus on numerical/physical modelling, wave-structure-sea bed interactions, turbulent boundary layer under solitary waves, scour around pile structures, and tsunami. |
