Nominator's project description

Professor Dobson is an international expert in the field of high-pressure mineral physics and mineralogy. He has made major contributions to understanding transport properties of materials under conditions of the Earth's deep mantle and metallic core, such as chemical diffusivity, thermal diffusivity, melt viscosity and solid-state rheology. In Germany he will work on the deformation properties of the post-perovskite phase, which is the dominant mineral at the very base of the Earth's mantle, as well as extending his previous research on deep earthquakes.
