Nominator's project description
| Josef A. Käs is a key figure in the field of cellular biophysics and polymer physics. Käs has made outstanding contributions to the investigation of the physics of the cytoskeleton, a highly dynamic polymer network within the cell interior. He and his research group have developed novel laser-based nanomanipulation tools to look into cells and to investigate the cytoskeleton. This has led to a better understanding of the progression of cancer from precancer to metastasis and how the cytoskeleton can be used to control neuronal growth. His ultimate goal is the development of a table top device for quick cancer diagnosis, which accomplishes cancer's earliest detection and precise determination of its stage, to built well-controlled circuits of genuine neurons, and to develop novel therapies in neuro prosthetics. |
