Nominator's project description
| Professor Roberts has greatly contributed to our understanding of basic features of elementary particle physics and of the mathematics needed for their analysis. With regard to physics, he uncovered a deep relation between Einstein's causality principle, the phenomenon of particle statistics and the appearance of gauge groups in nature. In mathematics, his work is seminal for modern developments in the theory of operator algebras, category theory and group theory. During his stay in Germany he intends to develop new mathematical methods for the analysis and classification of quantum systems exhiting long range forces. |
