Nominator's project description

Dr. Davidson is awarded the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Prize for his scientific achievements in the field of ultra cold atoms. Dr. Davidson has developed the art of so called dark optical dipole traps. These traps make very versatile experimental tools to study extremely cold atomic gases down to the quantum regime. He has demonstrated the strength ot his method by studying dynamic evolution of atomic ensembles from the chaotic to the quantum degenerate regime of Bose Einstein condensates. In our joint efforts we are planning to extend Dr. Davidsons expertise to our work with neutral atoms in quantum information processing.
