Nominator's project description
| Professor Lücke has made major contributions to the elucidation of the structure and function of membrane proteins, and has now decided to tackle the structural analysis of G-protein coupled receptors. These proteins are interesting, both for their activation mechanism and for their importance as drug targets. The work will start from the known structure of rhodopsin, the photoreceptor of the retinal rod cell. Professor Lücke's partner in Germany is Professor Klaus Peter Hofmann who has expertise in the analysis of rhodopsin-like proteins. The work is going to be done at the Biophysics Institute at Charité Medical School (HU Berlin). |
