Nominator's project description

Dr. Keller is one of the leading solar astronomers, particularly in the field of magnetic file measurements by polarimetric methods, image reconstruction, and instrument development. He has pioneered methods to obtain spatially resolved observations of the basic magnetic flux concentrations in the solar photosphere and plays a key role in using the scattering polarization in spectral lines and the Hanle effect to determine the structure of tha solar magnetic field. During his stay at the Max-Planck-Institute for Aeronomy in Katlenburg-Lindau, he is going to analyse new magnetic field data and compare them with the results obtained by the numerical simulation group at MPA.
