Nominator's project description
Dr. Zhang's most attractive success is the achievement of thick cubic boron nitride (cBN) films, a material with excellent properties comparable or even superior to diamond. Applying fluorine chemistry, he develooped a novel method to deposit thick cBN films with low stress and high quality. This achievement is a milestone in the development of vapor-deposited cBN films, and makes the practical application of this excellent material a step away. In collaboration with the Institute of Material Engineering, Unviersity Siegen, Dr. Zhang is going to upscale his growth method and lower the depostion temerature to make this technology applicable. |
