Nominator's project description
| Super-intense laser pulses being for tiny fractions of a second as powerful as a nation's power stations, reveal a wealth of unexpected physical phenomena when interacting with single atoms. This for instance led to groundbreaking new sources of radiation. Dr. Pierre Agostini is a leading expert in this research. He conducted experiments starting the field and, most recently, was among the first to generate light pulses shorter than a billionth of a millionth of a second (femtosecond). He plans to utilize such light for the exploration of electron-electron correlations in atoms. |
